TSMSS Member Newsletter: February 2018

Message from the President

As we hit our stride in 2018, from all of us at TSMSS, we would like to extend our sincere appreciation for your passion and dedication to the medical services profession. As we celebrate another year of accomplishments together, we couldn’t help but notice how willing our members are to reach out to one another—both online and in person—to share knowledge, experiences, templates and best practices. This type of sharing makes our community larger, stronger, and smarter.  With that sharing spirit in mind, you won’t want to miss some key events that are happening in the coming months.  You’ll find the details within this newsletter.

Your TSMSS Board met in January at the conference hotel and we think you will love the venue this year!  We had an opportunity to work on the strategic plan and we will continue to flesh out the details for some exciting ideas that will continue to move our organization forward!

Also in January, I traveled with one of our Directors-at-Large, Amanda Pierce, to Miami, Florida where we had the opportunity to participate in the NAMSS Leadership Conference that brought together leadership from 38 states. We were so pleased to continue our work on some of our strategic plan concepts with additional brainstorming from different perspectives.  Amanda and I specifically enjoyed spending quality time with our colleagues from Louisiana, Oklahoma, and New Mexico.  Our table can be seen in this photo along with our NAMSS President-Elect, Susan Diaz. Left to right, starting bottom row: Liz Glover (LA), DeeAnn Long (OK), Monica Montoya (NM), Susan Diaz (NY), Amanda Pierce (TX), Jennifer Rich (TX).

We hope that you will continue to share with us! If you would like to recognize an important milestone or achievement, let us know by sending the key details to info@tsmss.org. We would love to celebrate with you!  Also, we welcome your thoughts, knowledge and contributions at any time!

- Jennifer

Get To Know Your TSMSS Board of Directors

We asked your TSMSS Board members to tell us a little about themselves. Featured members for this newsletter include Lisa Camacho and Tracy Needs. Here is what they had to say:

Lisa Camacho, Director-at-Large, Chapter Liaison:

  1. What Region of TX are you in? I am located in San Antonio and currently a member of STAMSP.
  2.  Tell us something you’d like others to know about you.  I do not like saying “NO”, if someone needs something I try my best to get it done even when I really do not have the time!!
  3. What lead you to be on the TSMSS BOD? Providing and serving has always been my passion I love to help others and in turn I get to meet many great people and create positive relationships.
  4.  What is your goal on the Board this year?  My goal is to encourage all of the Chapters to build their Chapter stronger. I would like to provide additional resources to ensure Chapters are successful.
  5.  Who inspires you?  My husband inspires me!!  Since the day we met he has always encouraged and supported me in the choices I make; from family, my education, to my career.  He has always had faith in me, whenever I doubt myself he would say – you’re strong and you can do this…..stay focused, stay positive, and you will achieve. “The Biggest obstacles in our lives are the barriers our mind creates”.
  6.  What are you passionate about? My family is the most important to me. Trying to be a good mother, daughter, wife, and aunt can be difficult because I am always so busy. But you know what?? “We” “I” have to make time for my family, we always have a reason not to attend something because we are so busy with everyday life, but we need to embrace and enjoy life each day because we are never promised tomorrow.

Tracy Needs, Director-at-Large:

  1. What Region of TX are you in?  South Central
  2.  Tell us something you’d like others to know about you. Over the last few years I’ve made some great changes in my life that resulted in me becoming healthier and happier. I am very proud of myself for sticking with it and reaching my goals.
  3.  What lead you to be on the TSMSS BOD?  I’ve been involved with TSMSS conferences for years and I expressed interest in getting more involved. I was nominated for the director at large position. I was not elected when I ran, however later a position became vacant and I was asked to fill the position.  I was on the board of STAMSP for one year as director at large/membership chair.
  4.  What is your goal on the Board this year? To help others in the industry/new to the industry realize the value of TSMSS, it has been a great resource to me, not only for knowledge and learning but also for networking and meeting some great leaders in our industry.
  5.  Who inspires you?  Sheryl Sandburg, COO of Facebook and the founder of Leanin.org. She is a strong independent woman. Her husband also died suddenly.  She has been able to handle adversity well and overcome obstacles to reach her goals.
  6. What's the coolest thing you're working on right now? I am the coolest thing I'm working on right now.  I've spent the last 18 years being a wife and Mom and now I have decided to work on me.  I still have my Mom duties, but I definitely make time for me.  I want to grow and be healthy and do the things that make me happy.

If you’d like to continue to get to know Lisa and/or Tracy, please reach out to them at ecamacho@nshinc.com and tracyneeds13@sbcglobal.net respectively. They would love to get to know you too, and they welcome your ideas to further our mission!
