12:30pm-2pm Opening General Session

The Dance of the Generations
Bob Scott, University of Texas Medical Branch
For the first time in American history, there are four distinct generations in the work-place; the Traditional Generation, Baby Boomers, Generation X and Generation Y (or Nexters). Through defining events, each generation has developed a unique "filter" though which they hear and process information. Our speaker today, Bob Scott, will give us a unique, humorous and ENERGETIC look at how we can bridge the generation gap in the work place.
Mr. Scott has a degree in accounting from Texas Tech University and is currently with the University of Texas Medical Branch as a Senior Business Partner in Organizational Effectiveness. He and his life partner are avid sailors and spend as much time as possible on their 30 foot sail boat, "Pride." As Baby Boomers, they also have one daughter who is Generation X-er and one daughter who is a Y-er. The sailboat and the daughters explain why Bob is interested in trying to bridge generational differences and also why he has little expendable income!

In GodWe Trust…All Others Must Document

Christina Giles, MS, CPMSM
It must be done, and taking minutes seems so easy - yet is it really? Have you ever read a set of minutes and wondered: "What really happened at this meeting?"or (worse) has a surveyor reviewed your minutes and raised questions that no one could answer? Documentation is an art and can be learned. In the medical staff office, minutes are an important and necessary activity. This session will focus on the basics and provide examples and samples for review and discussion.

One Small Voice
Dolly Marting
Dolly Marting's credo is profound in its simplicity: "what you cannot change, rearrange!" During this presentation, you will laugh and learn as she shares a fresh approach to dealing with adversity. Through example and wit, Dolly exemplifies how "The Power of One" can impact business as well as personal relationships. As a motivational speaker and humorist, Dolly Marting is often asked what motivates her. Her reply is simple: "When my daughter's only two children, who were completely normal at birth, were each diagnosed with a rare neurological malady at two years of age, I chose to speak on behalf of the profoundly retarded, many of whom have no speech at all". "One Small Voice" tells the story of her grandsons and relays the humorous and heart-warming experiences that evolved from this deep, dark place. Dolly donates all fees received from her speaking engagements directly to facilities serving the profoundly retarded.
