Sun City Update
Quarterly meeting was held on Friday, May 21, 2010 at University Medical Center of El Paso. Outgoing President Michele Vera called the meeting to order and was presented with a plaque for her dedication and hard work on behalf of the Chapter. Ms. Vera then introduced the new Chapter Officers, President, Norma E. Castillo, Vice-President, Janet Hamman, Secretary-Treasurer, Sandra Morales, and Education Chair, John R. Tree and turned the meeting over to Ms. Castillo. Mr. Tree gave an update on the study sessions, which had been suspended temporarily due to individual's schedules but are being restarted again. He passed out a Study Group Poll in order to determine the best day to meet. Mr. Tree also passed out a Needs Assessment to the members. Ms. Castillo then spoke about ideas for reviving the Sun City Chapter including a logo contest, website development, monthly newsletter, and various committee formations including a Scholarship Committee. With information from the member applications received, Ms. Castillo and the rest of the Officers will be forming Committees based on member interest to increase membership, increase public awareness, plan chapter activities, maintain membership, plan educational activities, development of the newsletter, etc. Regarding the Logo Contest, seventeen logo entries were submitted and the winning logo and creator were announced. An animated PowerPoint presentation of the logos was presented after which Ms. Myriam Cervantes from University Medical Center of El Paso, creator of the winning entry was recognized. A copy of our Sun City Chapter logo is attached. Ms. Cervantes received a gift basket of goodies. Work on a website and newsletter will begin shortly. A door prize drawing was held at the end of the meeting and Ms. Elizabeth Juarez from Las Palmas Medical Center won a "Cooking with Credentials" cookbook.
